Is Gerard Kennedy the only adult left in the race?

I must say, the reactions of many camps, to the actions of their leaders on Saturday is quite distressing.

Arguments have went such as this: Ignatieff isn't attacking Gerard therefore Ignatieff is courting Gerard. Ignatieff and Gerard won't add up to more than 50% on the first ballot therefore Rae will win. (Ignoring the fact that Rae plus Dion won't be more than 50% either, and that Gerard and Dion still can win)

This backroom analysis, inside baseball, is not healthy for the party to play out in the open. Our harsh personal attacks now, stick in the media, and are preserved for posterity on the internet.

When it comes time to deal on the convention floor, deal by all means. Fight by all means, yell, scream, laugh, cry.

Calling someone on their record directly, and giving them a chance to respond is not a personal attack. Not giving them a chance to respond, while mischaracterizing their record is a personal attack.

  • Yes, he is. He does not get involved in mudslinging and he is not contributing to the further splintering of the party either.

The other candidates, and their supporters, should be ashamed. They're doing Harper's work. The only one who cares about true renewal and beating Harper is Kennedy.

As I wrote on my blog today (www.wernerpatels.com), if Rae, Ignatieff or Rae are elected, the party will collapse completely - because of the myriad of factions alone that would be created as a result.

  • And if Kennedy wins, what happens to Quebec, where he got zero support from Liberal members?
