Don't let Ignatieff off easy

We must remember, MI supported Quebec as a nation, not Quebecers.

MI supported recognizing Quebec as a nation in the constitution, not symbolically in the house.

MI's position is much closer to the original Bloc resolution, than the Conservative motion.

MI - come clean, this isn't a win for you.

  • So Quebecers don't support MI? The DSM results sure say otherwise.

Quebec Liberals are Behind Michael Ignatieff, New endorsements Announced During a Major Event at the Palais des Congrès
Over 750 supporters from all regions of Quebec will gather this evening at the Palais des Congrès to show their support for Michael Ignatieff a few days before the Liberal Leadership Convention. This will be the largest event since the start of the campaign.

“I am very happy to be among so many Liberals who, like me, believe that together we can renew the Liberal Party of Canada and present a winning alternative to Stephen Harper and Gilles Duceppe in the next election,” said Michael Ignatieff. “I look forward to seeing all these supporters once again at the Palais des Congrès next week.”

During the evening, long-time supporters will join several Liberals who have tonight publicly endorsed Michael. The Michael Ignatieff campaign is pleased to announce that 10 Liberal riding presidents and 6 candidates in the last election announced their support this evening. They are:

The Hon. Hélène Chalifour Scherrer (Candidate, Louis Hébert, MP 2000-04, former minister)
Charles Ghorayeb (Candidate, Chateauguay –Saint Constant)
Gilles Savard (Candidate and President, Jonquière-Alma)
    Éric Paradis (Candidate, Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière)
    Lise Vachon (Candidate, Montmagny-L’Islet-Kamouraske-Rivière-du-Loup)
    Robert Y. Pouliot (Candidate, Sherbrooke)

    Ghislaine Cournoyer (President, Bas-Richelieu-Nicolet Bécancour)
Jean-Louis Hamel (President, Jeanne – Le Ber)
    Brigitte Conter (Presidente, La Pointe-de-l’Île)
    Gilles Sawyer (President, Lévis-Bellechasse)
    Pierre Vallières (President, Lotbinière-Chutes-de-la-Chaudière)
    Clément Gaudreau (President, Montmagny-L’islet-Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup)
    Luc Cousineau (President, Papineau)
Raymonde Desjardins (President, Rosemont-La Petite Patrie)
    Elias Kassab (President, Shefford)

They join Michael Ignatieff’s strong team in Quebec that now includes 4 members of Parliament, 4 senators, 41 riding association presidents, 28 candidates in the last election and 13 members of the LPC(Q) board of directors.

Furthermore, Christian Jobin, former MP for Lévis-Chute-de-la-Chaudière, and Daniel Garcia, a well-known organizer in the Quebec City area, have also joined the Ignatieff campaign.

“Tonight’s message is very clear: Quebec Liberals are behind Michael Ignatieff. We have found in him a leader who is not afraid to present new ideas, a leader who understands Quebec’s sensibility, a leader who is ready to lead us to victory in the next election,” said the Hon. Denis Coderre, MP for Bourassa and National Campaign co-Chair.

“Michael has strong support in all regions of Quebec and across Canada. And what we have been seeing since Super Weekend is that this support continues to grow. We will all work very hard up until the Convention to ensure that Michael Ignatieff becomes the next leader of our Party,” added Pablo Rodriguez, MP for Honoré-Mercier and Quebec Campaign Chair.

“Michael Ignatieff has demonstrated leadership since the beginning of this race. He has listened carefully to the grassroots of our Party. The themes of his campaign are dear to Quebec Liberals: the environment, regional economic development, social justice, recognizing Quebec as a nation within Canada, Canada’s place in the world. Under his leadership, the Liberal Party will be well equipped to convince the population that its actions are well-founded and ultimately to win the next election,” said the Hon. Lise Bacon, senator and honorary Quebec Campaign co-Chair.

A complete list of Quebec support for Michael Ignatieff is attached to this release. Further support will be announced in the coming days as Michael’s candidacy continues to generate enthusiasm before the Leadership Convention.

  • Supporters of Rae, Kennedy and Dion have enough common sense to do one thing: not vote for Ignatieff.
    Bye Bye Iggy!

  • We must remember, MI supported Quebec as a nation, not Quebecers.

The above statement is just ludicrous and smacks of bitterness.

    Maybe if you said:

“We must remember, Michael served as a vehicle to expresses the unwise wishes of a majority of grassroots, federalist Liberals in Quebec”

Then I would say it was a fair statement.

16 new ex-officio supporters? Good news Justin.

  • It is that he claims ownership of this resolution, when it is nothing like his position at all.

This recognizes the Quebecois as a nation, not Quebec.

    Very Very Different.

  • Here here Ignatieff. I just got back from the event, in fact.

And Pebbles, go suck a lemon.
